7 Reasons Why Stone Tower is My Favorite Winery

With so many amazing wineries in Loudoun County, it’s hard to know which ones are really worth your Sunday afternoon leisure time. Let me share with you the top 7 reasons why Stone Tower is my absolute favorite winery, and why it definitely should be the next one you visit.

It is family friendly

As a mom of two young children and also a wino, I rarely find that I can enjoy both passions at the same time. Enter: Stone Tower. I absolutely love that the Harvest Barn side of Stone Tower offers a family friendly setting, even welcoming Fido (provided that he is on a leash!). My family regularly enjoys a few hours (yes, HOURS) at Stone Tower; the kids run around and play on the gorgeous open field, and my husband, friends, and I enjoy a bottle of wine and some snacks as we take in the beautiful scenery. We always make sure to arrive promptly at 11am when they open, since space fills up fast on nice days! Also, the umbrellas are limited, so by arriving early, we ensure that we secure a spot with shade.

The views are breathtaking

The views at Stone Tower will blow you away. That is, if you enjoy rolling vineyard settings with mountain backdrops. Sometimes I still find it hard to believe that this venue is in Leesburg, a mere 10 minutes off the Dulles Toll Road on Route 15. Stone Tower brings the paradise of Napa Valley to Loudoun County. I mean, if there ever was a beautiful convenience for northern Virginians, this tops the list.

The setting is classy and chic

Among the newer wineries in Loudoun, Stone Tower’s 2015 opening means that while the vines are a bit newer, the venue’s chic farmhouse style is too. What’s not to love about a winery that blends vintage country with modern style in the classiest of ways. Even the live music they bring in fits well into the relaxing vibe they’ve curated on this amazing property.

The wine is great

People enjoy visiting wineries for many different reasons, but as a lover of truly good wine, I don’t find very many wineries in Loudoun from which I’d actually choose to drink the wine over another great bottle from say, Napa. Stone Tower offers one blazing exception: the Boar’s Head Rosé Cuvée. For Mother’s day, my husband got me one of my favorite bottles of sparkling rosé from Napa as well as a bottle of the same from Stone Tower, and I instantly had a new favorite, with the added bonus that I can drive 20 minutes to pick it up rather than pay $20 to have it shipped from California! Enjoying a glass of sparkling wine, especially on a warm spring or summer afternoon, is among life’s most enjoyable experiences. Add an epic view, and voilà! Paradise, right here in my home town. [Side note: we also enjoy the Viognier and Chardonnay from Stone Tower, but we tend to stay away from Virginia reds since our tastes do not align with the profile of the red grape varietals grown in Virginia.]

You can bring your own picnic

We love to enjoy wine with our favorite cheeses (hello, Ossau-Iraty and Delice de Bourgogne), homemade dips and charcuterie plates, or freshly made chicken salad and ciabatta from South Street Under. We definitely appreciate that Stone Tower welcomes patrons to bring their own picnics to enjoy with their wine purchase. This also makes for an enjoyable time for our kids, since we can bring food that they will eat rather than relying solely on what the winery sells. However, if you prefer to purchase food on-site, they offer a great selection of options, too! Stone Tower recently started selling some snack food options like cheese, crackers and salami as a quick pick up option. Additionally, several food trucks regularly set up shop on property, including a pizza, BBQ, and gelato truck. Let’s be clear; it never hurts to cap off a lovely afternoon at the winery with a cup of mint chocolate chip gelato!

They offer an adults-only side

Some days, you just want to enjoy a glass of wine in calm, scenic bliss. Stone Tower understands and answers that need with the adults-only Tower View side of Stone Tower. Patrons still enjoy the unbeatable mountain and vineyard views, but in the company of guests 21+ only. On the outdoor portion of the Tower View patio, you’re welcome to bring your own food to enjoy with your wine, but inside, you have to purchase the selection of food they offer on site.

They offer great event space and wine tours

Stone Tower offers the most beautiful location for private events, from birthday parties and client appreciation events, to corporate meetings and weddings. Groups can rent an outdoor table for up to 10 people for around $100, or one of the larger rooms on the Tower View side for larger groups of 25+. We were guests of a wedding at Stone Tower one fall, and it was one of the most beautiful weddings we’ve ever attended, thanks to such an epic setting. In addition, Stone Tower offers many exclusive events to its members, including extended evening hours on Friday, specialty dinners, and a variety of classes.

The tour at Stone Tower was also among the best wine tours we’ve ever taken, and we’ve enjoyed many a vineyard tour in Napa! The guided walking tour included on-site tastings of sparkling wine, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Malbec, Merlot, and finished with their port-like dessert wine. It was such a neat experience to walk and learn about the Stone Tower property, process, the vines, and history.
